A talk on the different styles of herb gardens, suitability of sites, and structure, and making a rough plan.  We will  do some practical tasks such as measuring a site and  considering  its positive and negative aspects.

Herbs and their uses. Where is the best spot for them?

A talk about herbs, their medicinal and culinary uses, their preferred aspect and soil.  Choosing your herbs and deciding where to place then on your plan. You will be shown how to discover your soil’s  pH.

 Propagation methods and harvesting tips.

When to plant your herbs. 

How to use a biodynamic calendar

Propagation methods and when to plant your seeds or cuttings. Most of the time will be spent outside getting hands-on experience of propagation and we will try to cover as many of your chosen herbs as we can in the time. 

Bring gardening gloves and dress for the weather. A kettle and herbal teas will be available in the classroom. The Paxton House tearoom will be open if you wish to buy coffee, snacks, or lunch.

We will make lovely products for our face, lips, and hair. Including a fabulous Rose Hip Skin Balm, Lip Balm, Spray and Shine Hair Oil, and a Herbal Hair Mask.

Herbal Preparations for Spring


10am-1pm, £30.00 

Put a spring in your step! We will make a spring tonic, herbal infusions, and nettle soup for our lunch. There will also be a demonstration of how to make sun-infused oils from dandelions and calendula which you can do at home.  Tickets from   Eventbrite

Workshop drying flowers

Tuesday 18th June

The Art of Drying, Pressing and Mounting Flowers and Leaves

 Paxton House, Education Classroom, TD15 1SZ 10am-3pm, £45.00

We will forage in the grounds of Paxton House to collect botanicals to use in this workshop. Dried botanicals can be mounted to make either a piece of artwork or a herbarium specimen using traditional methods. Making Floral & Herbal Waters Workshop

Making Floral and Herbal Waters or Hydrolates. The flowers and herbs used will depend on what is available in the grounds of Paxton House on the day. A few bits of lavender, or rose petals, or chamomile, some water, steam, and ice….   If you have never done this before it is absolutely amazing!   Tickets from  Eventbrite
